How to Pack a Beach Cooler Like a Pro
Packing a beach cooler isn't just about throwing in ice and drinks. The right packing strategy keeps your ice frozen longer and prevents soggy sandwiches. Here is the step-by-step guide to packing a cooler for an all-day beach trip.

Step 1: Pre-Chill the Cooler
Never put ice into a hot cooler. Bring your cooler inside the night before. If you have a hard cooler, pre-chill it with a sacrificial bag of ice or frozen water bottles to bring the internal temperature down before your actual pack.
Step 2: Start with a Solid Ice Base
Layer the bottom with solid ice blocks or reusable freezer packs. Block ice melts much slower than cubed ice, providing a long-lasting foundation of cold for the rest of your items.
Step 3: Layer Drinks and Food
Place drinks at the bottom since they are the heaviest and you will reach for them most often. Add a layer of cubed ice. Then, place your food items in watertight containers on top to prevent them from getting crushed or soggy.
Step 4: Top It Off and Seal
Fill any remaining air gaps with cubed ice. Air is the enemy of ice retention. Close the lid tightly and only open it when absolutely necessary to maintain the cold temperature.
